Work at the nation

Smålands nation is an organization run by students, for students. Working here is a great opportunity to meet new friends. Working at Smålands nation is primarily for the fun, not necessarily for economic compensation.

 

At Smålands nation you can work in the pub called ”Hyttan”. You will then start working at 17pm, and work until the cleaning is done, about 00.30am. You will earn 100 SEK, get food and you can borrow a T-shirt during the evening.

 

Our pub is open five days a week. Monday-Thursday 18pm-24pm and Friday 18pm-01am.

 

Prior to working at any of the nations it is very important that you go to the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket, www.skatteverket.se) and get a Swedish personal number (personnummer). If you do not want to pay taxes, you will need documentation from the Swedish Tax Agency stating that you do not need to pay taxes. This document needs to be presented to the nation before you start to work.

 

Your language skills may also have an effect on your ability to work in certain positions. Language is often a barrier when working, since misunderstandings can occur. Make sure to listen carefully, and ask if you do not understand or are uncertain of what has been said. For some positions at the nations it is required that you are fluent in Swedish and/or English.

 

It is of great importance that you come to work on time so that you can get information regarding the work that is to be done. If you have a valid reason for being late, but you do not announce it in some way, the operations manager may need to call in a replacement. It is vital that you yourself come on time and do not send a replacement without prior notification.

 

The student nations are only for members of a nation. Therefore only those who are members of a nation are allowed admittance to the nation.

 

During your work shift, you will meet a person who is in charge of the pub/fika/club, and whose duty is to make sure that the operation runs smoothly. He or she knows what has to be done and how it is to be done. Make sure to ask the person in charge or other staff if anything is unclear so that nothing is misunderstood.
